Chac y los Cuatro Rumbos

Chac was one of the main gods for the mesoamerican cultures. He was know as Tlaloc to the azteks and he was mainly the god of water, rain and storm. He is a giver.

For mayans, he is also the guide for the universe. He represented both the 3 terrenal dimensions and the 4th -Time.
He is divided into four other chacs, each for a direction with it's respective colour: East is red (where the sun come alive each day), yellow for the south, black for the west (were the sun dies) and white for the north. An important fact for mayan culture is that the sun rises from the top... not the right as we now conceive it.

In this piece, Chach is the center of the universe... he's stretching out to every direction. He's snake body represent the pass of time, it being a cycle.
He's holding a shield in his left hand with the "Earth" or Celestial Cross in it and in his right hand he's holding a traditional weapon, with which is said he created the thunders.

Each chac is rising from it's kingdom towards the main figure. Present, past and future... direction... and reality versus dreams, represented by the water mirror.
